Episode 48 - Listen to Your Audience Like WBCN Listened to Theirs
Listen to your audience like WBCN listened to theirs.
WBCN 104.1 FM. "The Rock of Boston."
What a ridiculously awesome radio station it was back in the day.
Charles Laquidara. Ken Shelton. Tracy Roach. Albert O. Carter Alan.
Great personalities behind the mic. Great music on the air.
It wasn't all about them, though. WBCN really cared about its listeners, so much so that the station had something called the listener line that people could call into and ask the volunteers who answered the phone anything at all.
WBCN listened to its audience both literally and figuratively, in that they knew exactly what people wanted from them in a radio station and gave it to them.
As it was for 'BCN then, it should be for any brand or business in this day and age.
Take the pulse of your customers and constituents.
Take requests.
Take notes.
Listen to your audience like WBCN listened to theirs and learn from their feedback.

Episode 47 - Audio and Video, A Dynamic Duo
What trends do I see coming down the pike in content marketing in 2019?
I was happy and honored to be asked that question for Brafton recently. You can read my thoughts, along with 11 other marketing experts’, here: https://www.brafton.com/blog/content-marketing/marketing-experts-give-their-take-on-content-marketing-in-2019-and-beyond/
Audio and video are a dynamic content marketing duo that are poised to take off to even greater heights in the new year ahead and beyond.
As I said in this Brafton piece, “Like video, audio is in intimate medium. You feel like you know somebody when you listen to him or her on a regular basis. So, podcasts have a credibility factor that is simply impossible to achieve with written content alone.”
And…“If they have not already, marketing professionals would be wise to get comfortable both behind and in front of the camera.”

Episode 46 - In the future, will all media be social media?
In the future, will all media be social media?
That’s what some prognosticators say. I tend to agree with them.
The Pew Research Center announced recently that social media had outranked print newspapers as a source of news for Americans (http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/12/10/social-media-outpaces-print-newspapers-in-the-u-s-as-a-news-source/).
Such a momentous milestone not only illustrates the prevalence, popularity and power of social media today, it’s a warning sign of what’s to come to those businesses and brands who still aren’t up to speed with online communications channels such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and the like.

Episode 41 - Rock Your Audience
I recently saw a ridiculously awesome movie, Bohemian Rhapsody.
You know the story.
It's about the legendary rock band, Queen, and their late, great lead singer, Freddie Mercury.
There's a scene in this movie in which the band is developing the idea for their song, "We Will Rock You."
You know the song.
They wanted to engage their audience. They wanted their fans to be part of that song. Watching that scene and listening to that song gave me a thought.
As it was for Queen in playing that song then, it is for all brands and businesses now.
You want to engage your audience.
You want to involve them in whatever it is you do in some way, shape or form.
You want to rock your audience.

Corporate Culture Counts

Episode 39 - Corporate Culture Counts
The importance of having a good, positive culture in the workplace cannot be underestimated.
The Boston Red Sox won 108 games during the regular season this year, the most in franchise history, and then cruised through the postseason to their fourth World Series title since 2004.
The Sox had to compete against plenty of other talented baseball teams in 2018, but perhaps none had the camaraderie and culture the Boston team had in their clubhouse.
Maybe none had such a supportive, selfless manager like Alex Cora at the helm, either.
Talent and skills aren’t always the determining factors in winning.
Without the right culture instilled into the workplace, even the best teams – and businesses in general – can fall behind the competition.
Without a strong leader installed at the top, even the best teams can fall apart.
Businesses and brands, companies and organizations of all sizes, shapes and forms…ask yourselves if you have the culture and leadership in place to win in the marketplace like the Red Sox won on the field this year. Corporate culture counts.
